Description
This is an old Oriental black lacquer paper mache and compostion decorated storage barrel that has a black lacquer interior and bottom.Thought maybe it was a storage container for tea or tobacco.
The exterior of this unique piece is done in an all over design of embossed gold leaves and a scattering of birds and small seeds or berries with red dots.
This has a notched lid and fits fairly flush to the base.
This barrel is about 6 3/8″ tall with the top diameter of about 4″ but wider in the center area like a barrel would be.
There is a small area of damage to the lid where it has a scrtch or cut mark down to the base material that looks like a plaster but the  lid is too light for plaster. This mark is about 3/8″ long and not as bad as the photo makes it look.
I see a couple of other tiny specks of white on the lid as well as this larger mark.
The rest of the piece looks good!
The entire piece only weighs about 1 pound 5 ounces so it is fairly lightweight like paper mache.
It is rather unique and nice for the collector of oriental.
